The Big South Tournament quarterfinals will begin Thursday, March 5th at the Dedmon Center in Radford, Virginia. The Radford Highlanders will be the host after winning back to back regular-season Big South Championships.
The schedule for Thursday is as followed:
No. 2 Winthrop vs. No. 7 USC Upstate (noon ET)
No. 3 Gardner Webb vs. No. 6 UNC Asheville (2 p.m. ET)
No. 1 Radford vs. No. 8 Charleston Southern (6 p.m. ET)
No. 4 Longwood vs. No. 5 Hampton (8 p.m. ET)
Then the semifinals will be Friday first game at 6 pm eastern time with the second game to follow about 30 minutes after the conclusion to game 1.
TOP 5 Players to Watch:
1st.
Carlik Jones (Radford)- The Junior was named Big South Player of the year. He led the Highlanders to back to back regular-season championship and is looking to get them to the NCAA Tournament for the 2nd time in 3 years. He’s averaging 19.6 points a game, 5.5 assists per game, and 5 rebounds per game. The Highlanders will go as far as the do it all Junior Jones takes them.
2nd.
Jermaine Marrow (Hampton)- Marrow is the Leading scorer in the Big South and is the 4th best scorer nationally at 24.3 points per game, he also leads the league in assists per game at 6.5. If you like to watch playmaking guards, Marrow should be near the top of your list and is capable of getting upset-minded Hampton to March Madness.
3rd.
Phlandrous Fleming Jr. (Charleston Southern)- The 6’4 Junior guard out of Georgia is 4th in Big South in scoring at 17.5 points a game, while also leading the league in rebounds at 8.6 per game. Fleming will have to show up early and often if the Buccaneers want to upset top seed and host Radford in the quarterfinals.
4th.
Ben Stanley (Hampton)- Stanley a 6’6 sophomore is the conference’s second-leading scorer at 22.5 points per game and shooting it at 58 percent from the field. He also is grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game and gives Hampton a tough duo to stop.
5th.
Eric Jamison Jr. (Gardner-Webb)- Jamison a Senior returnee off last years reigning Big South Tournament championship team leads the Runnin’ Bulldogs in scoring at 14.4 per game, while also tallying nearly 6 rebounds a game.
