College football is one of the most entertaining athletic spectacles that we are fortunate to witness. It's fast, it's physical, and it's fun, but most importantly: it's got jokes.
The 2018-2019 college football season gave us everything. We had coaching changes, historic upsets, and jokes that almost broke the internet.
I took the liberty of polling the general public and accepting their suggestions. We came among a strong consensus that there were 4 clear options.
Without further ado and in no particular order:
1. "I'm not going to, so quit asking"
After dominating Louisville 51-14 to start the 2018-2019 season, Maria Taylor touched a very sensitive subject with Nick Saban when she asked him what he thought about his quarterbacks in the game. He began answering the question somewhat cordially before asking her "alright, so why do you continue to try and get me to say something that doesn’t respect one of them? I’m not going to, so quit asking.” Yikes. The interview took over and became one of the most perfect reaction videos since the internet's inception.
2. Hunter Renfrow is a time traveling wizard.
Ok, this is self-explanatory. This past season, Hunter Renfrow began making noise as Clemson's wide receiver for the 42nd year in a row. He will finally enter the NFL draft this year, much to Bill Belichick's excitement. One of my biggest regrets as a writer is not getting media access to the Cotton Bowl and asking Hunter what life was like in the Civil War. Oh well. Here is a brief snapshot of his illustrious career.
3. "Ok Cool, Hook Em"
It's not everyday that you are publicly accused of adultery by a guy who allegedly sent nudes in the White House bathroom while he was a guest for a national championship visit, but here's Tom Herman. When noted creep, internet tough guy, and former Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith texted Herman a novel of a manic rant, Herman's response was legendary.
What makes this even better is that a week later Herman's wife wore a shirt with the infamous quote as the front label. Ok, I know what you're thinking. So what? His wife is in on the joke. Well, proceeds that come from this specific shirt benefit a women's domestic violence advocacy group, and Zach Smith lost his job at Ohio State after Brett McMurphy released a scathing report of domestic violence allegations against him from his ex-wife. The Hermans are troll experts and we are all witnesses.
4. UCF's National Championship
UCF's National Championship is about as real as a football bat. We don't have photos of the championship trophy, because it is located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where it sleeps beside Tua's knee brace.
*cringing* As an Auburn fan I feel partly responsible for this, my most sincere apologies. Here are the memes.
This past season made us laugh, it made us cry, and it made us question the amount of emotional investment we actually place in college football. What cannot be argued is that this content is good. Who knows what insanity is in store for us in 2019?
Thank you, LSU and ok, cool. Hook em.
