Year one of the Coach Spavital tenure was a bit of a learning curve, but year two is shaping out to be the year of the Bobcats. Despite losing a vast majority of last year's team, Texas State will turn to new faces to lead the program into the future, a future that Coach Spavital envisions championships and bowl wins.
The offense will turn to a two-quarterback system this season with last seasons starter in Tyler Vitt, and the transfer from Memphis, Brady McBride. Vitt has appeared in 18 games, with 12 of those coming as the starter. McBride, on the other hand, sat out last season after transferring to Texas State from Memphis.
The Bobcats will also turn to two seniors in Caleb Twyford and Jeremiah Haydel to put up the points for Texas State to compete for a Sun Belt title in 2020.
On defense, the Bobcats are led by two returning guys on the defensive line. Nico Ezidore and Caeveon Patton will be the anchors for the Bobcat defensive front, with Jarron Morris, and Khambrail Winters leading the charge in the secondary.
Coach Spavital has the right mindset and the coaching staff around him, to make Texas State one of the premier football programs in the Sun Belt conference for years to come.
The Bobcats will open their season on September 5th as they welcome the SMU Mustangs to Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.
