Big 12 Power Rankings

Michael Carano

The two top teams in the Big 12 proved to be very apparent in this past first week of College Football. You can't say that about the rest of the league at the moment though as many teams struggled and failed to look up to par. It's a conference with some major flaws, but also some very goof football teams, and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

1. Oklahoma

No surprises here. The Sooners were the consensus favorites going into the season and they didn't disappoint. They routed FAU 63-14 with their staple explosive offense and some big time improvement on the other side of the ball. They also looked very improved on special teams as new coordinator Shane Beamer looks as though has Brough beamer ball to Norman.

2. West Virginia

OU was the consensus favorite and WVU was the consensus number 2. Just the like the Sooners the Mountaineers looked extremely strong on Saturday. They blew out Tennessee 40-14 and Will Grier looks like a legitimate heisman candidate and overall stud.

3. TCU

The Horned Frogs beat up on a helpless Southern team 55-7. TCU didn't have a chance to prove much but their defense looked stout as always. Gary Patterson is great coach so you can never count out TCU. Week 3 will be very interesting when the get a shot at an Urban Meyer-less Ohio State team.

4. Iowa State

ISU's game was cancelled this weekend due to the weather but they've got a big rivalry matchup with Iowa coming up this week. The Cyclones are on of the most slept on teams in the country and I think they've got an outside shot at the Big 12 crown.

5. Oklahoma State

The pokes drubbed Missouri State 58-17. Any Mike Gundy offensive unit is gonna score at a high clip but the Qb situation in Stillwater isn't ideal right as it seems they ares till looking for their guy.

6. Kansas State

The Wildcats had a scare against South Dakota, barley winning 27-24. Nevertheless, Bill Synders boys pulled out but showed some big time flaws. I was high on them going into the season but that performance on Saturday was really rough.

7. Texas

Texas is back... to being not back. The Longhorns lost to Maryland for the second straight year as everybody who thoughts was their year climbs back into their caves. Not only this, but they've got a really tough schedule ahead and could easily enter the Red River Shootout 1-3.

8. Texas Tech

The Red Raiders took a big loss to Ole Miss in a game they were highly favored in. Kliff Kingsbury's seat may be hotter than the sun right now.

9. Baylor

Baylor gave up over 200 rushing yards to Abilene Christian. That is a big time issue but at least their offense looked alright.

10. Kansas

Kansas lost to Nicholls State...
