Another 5-Star QB Transferring, Where will Hunter Johnson Go?

Michael Carano

This past week Clemson Quarterback and former 5-star recruit announced he will transfer from the program. This makes sense, as going into this season he was most likely going to the Tigers third string QB behind Trevor Lawrence and Kelly Bryant.

The expected frontrunners for Johnson are Purdue and Northwestern. Both these schools could be very interesting landing spots, although Northwestern is probably the better option. After this season the Wildcats will be losing star Quarterback Clayton Thorson, and Johnson may be the man to fill in the roll.

Hunter Johnson at QB for Northwestern in 2019 (He will sit out 2018) could be very interesting. This past season, Chicago’s Big Ten team put together a very quiet 10 win season. They had a great year, but did not get much press, On top of this Pat Fitzgerald shows no signs of stopping as he is putting together a great run of years in Evanston. With Fitzgerald at the helm you can count on the Cats to have a sound defense, and with the former number 2 ranked QB in his class, they could be a very interesting team. This really could be a sleeper team in the Big ten.

Then there is the possibly of Purdue. To me this situation does not seem as favorable, but it is very possible. Johnson is from Indiana, so he may want to “go home”. This could work too, Jeff Brohm looks like he is putting something very special together with the Boilermakers, as his team looked very promising last year. Johnson could be what they need to really get pushed over the edge and have a legitimate 10 win team, and who knows, maybe another Big 10 title sleeper.

Wherever Hunter Johnson choses to take his talents, he will be a valuable asset to his new team, for now all we can do it speculate.
