Why I'm Pulling For The Eagles and Chiefs To Make The Super Bowl

Ryan McCormick

First of all I just want to say I'm not a fan of the Chiefs or the Eagles so there's no bias here, I'm just a fan of good football and exciting games and that's why I want this match up. Like most NFL fans I'm growing tired of having the same teams in the super bowl every year. I know it's not every year but it seems like every super bowl the last decade has had Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Ben Roethlisberger. The reason it feels that way is because that's how it basically is. As a matter of fact 13 of the last 14 Super Bowls have had one of those three in it with them winning 9 out of the 13. The NFC has had a little more competition but it seems like it's the Seahawks, Packers, and then a surprise team every year. As exciting as the games have been at some point I want different teams and I think this year there are a few teams that have a shot.

So far there have been a couple of surprise teams in the NFL including Philly and KC. New Orleans has won 5 in a row and looks to have a defense that could get that explosive offense to the playoffs. Houston looks to be getting better and better every week with Dashawn Watson. Carolina, Minnesota, Buffalo, the LA Rams, and even Tennessee are all teams that are maybe one or two pieces away from being contenders. I would say that the NFL is off to a good start to the year and I'm excited to see where it goes the rest of the way.

Now on the the KC vs Philadelphia match up, this is one that I think could be a great super bowl and involves two of the NFL's most loyal fan bases that deserve a trip to the super bowl soon. These two teams played once already this year, week 2 where the Chiefs won 27-20 giving the Eagles their only loss on the year in an exciting game.

Now here is why I like these two teams this year. First off let's talk about the Chiefs. If there is any coach that deserves another shot at a Super Bowl it's Andy Reid, plus who wouldn't want to see him coach the big game again. The Chiefs also have an explosive offense with some exciting players to watch like Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill as well as others including Alex Smith who is re-emerging as a top line NFL Qb. The chiefs have been on the come up for the past few years now and this year looks like it could be the year they get over the hump and make it to the big game. With an Explosive offense and a solid defense, the Chiefs have already proven that they can beat the best teams in the league this year and should be in for a deep playoff run.

Now on to the eagles. This was a team that was one of the worst in the NFL in 2015. A good draft selection in Carson Wentz, a good new coach and a few other pieces added here and there and all of the sudden they have one of the best teams in the NFL. Like I mentioned, the Eagles lost to the chiefs in week 2 but they have looked unstoppable since then. With Carson Wentz playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the league now with a good running game and solid receivers, the Eagles are in contention for the best offense in the league. While there is some concern with the defense, the offense has put up at least 26 points in every game this year, and one or two moves before the trade deadline could make the high flying eagles very scary.

Now I know that the chances of me getting this match up is slim but with the Eagles sitting atop the NFC and with the Chiefs getting a win tonight against the Broncos they would be tied for the AFC lead. If either of these teams were to get home field advantage in the playoffs then look out, as I mentioned before they have two of the best fan bases in the league and are tough teams to beat when they are at home. Until then I guess I'll keep cheering on my bears, here's to hoping Mitch Trubiskey can do well but not too well so that we can get a good draft pick, and here's to Zach Miller, as a football fan it made me sick when I heard of how serious his injury was today. Zach if you read this then just know there are millions of fans out there hoping for a full and speedy recovery. Also his TD should have stood.
