First round recap from the OVC Tournament in Evansville

Evansville, Indiana:

The first round of the OVC Tournament started with a bang with the first game between Tennessee State and Morehead state going to overtime, which ended up in a Tennessee State 74-67 win. To the second game where both Eastern Illinois and Jacksonville State fought tooth and nail before the Panthers eventually came out on top 67-61 to advance to Thursday's quarterfinal round.

The first game of the night was a thriller with the Tigers coming out on top.

Tennessee State was led by Ravel Moody and Carlos Marshall Jr. in scoring with 14 points each. The Tigers were also fortunate enough to add 12 points and eight rebounds from Wesley Harris.

Tennessee State closed the game hitting 13 late-game free throws.

With the win, Tennessee State advances to the quarterfinal round where they will take on Eastern Kentucky. That game is slated to tip-off, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. central. With the winner, earning a date with the top-seeded Belmont Bruins on Saturday.

The Panthers of Eastern Illinois were victories over Jacksonville State in the late-night edition of the OVC Tournament. The Panthers had to give everything they had to earn the first-round win on Wednesday night.

The Panthers were led to victory by three guys who combined for 54 points out of the 67 scored for Eastern Illinois.

Josiah Wallace led the way for the Panthers with 25 points.

Mack Smith added 17 points of his own, while Kashawn Charles brought up the rear with 12 points.

With the win, Eastern Illinois will advance to take Austin Peay in the late game on Thursday night.
