Oxford, Mississippi:
With less than three weeks away from the start of College Basketball, the Ole Miss Rebels are looking to ride last season's success into the 2019-2020 season. This will be the second year of the Kermit Davis era and the Rebels are out to prove the College Basketball world that they belong in the conversation.
Kermit Davis led the Rebels to a twenty win season and a return to the NCAA Tournament in the 2018-2019 season for the first time since 2015. These Rebels started the season with a bang, putting together a ten-game winning streak that lasted from late November to mid-January. The Rebels were picked dead last in the SEC heading into the 2018-2019 season but ended up finishing tied for 6th in the SEC rankings.
Despite losing Terence Davis, Bruce Stevens, and Dominik Olejniczak the Rebels will still be a force to be reckoned with this season.
Led by a talented backcourt with a four-guard starting lineup led by senior Breein Tyree at the helm. Ole Miss will also turn to a pair of Sophomores in Blake Hinson and Luis Rodriguez and a Junior Devontae Shuler to lead the Rebels this season.
The Ole Miss frontcourt will be very athletic led by, KJ Buffen who averaged four rebounds per game last season and the Juco and Virginia Tech product, Khadim Sy. Sy started 28 games at Virginia Tech as a freshman then went on to Daytona State College where he averaged almost a double-double for the entire season. Sy is a rangy 6'10" shot blocker and is expected to provide the consistency that Stevens and Olejniczak were unable to do.
This will be an Ole Miss Rebels team that has the depth and the athleticism that will mirror those great Middle Tennessee State teams coached by Kermit Davis.
Ole Miss will get their season underway on Monday, November 3rd as Mississippi College travels to Oxford for an exhibition game. Before opening the regular season on Friday, November 8th against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
