Sharks Destroy Flyers In Philly's Home Opener

Kevin Gesterling

The San Jose Sharks went into Philly and they destroyed the Flyers 8-2. This was a rare game that played out the same way the score reads. Philadelphia was putrid Tuesday Night in every way imaginable. The Sharks attempted 70 shots according to Natural Stat Trick. Hence the final score being what it was. It really was a massacre of epic proportions.  Due to that fact Flyers goalie, Brian Elliot was pretty damn good, saving 83% of the shots on net that counted. He was the reason that the Flyers were still in the game after one period.

Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane both netted two goals and Kevin Lebanc added four assists as San Jose's offensive stand outs. There was only one stand out for the Flyers and it was Elliot. He did his best to keep the Flyers in it, but they never rewarded him for his efforts. They played like complete garbage and it showed in the box score, and advanced stats backed it up.

The Flyers goals came from Wayne Simmonds and Shayne Gostisbehere. By the time either player scored the game was out of reach.

The most interesting part of the night for the Flyers was when the Flyers had to answer for their play. Responses to the game were quite interesting.

Including this one:

“I just think we played like [crap] tonight and the score shows it," Claude Giroux said

And this one:

“Yeah, we sucked," Shayne Gostisbehere said. "It is what it is. I feel so [freaking] bad for Moose right now. We left him out to dry. He was our best player tonight. It could have been 8-0 after the first."

Anyway, I won't go on long here, there is no reason to. Coming up for San Jose they finish out the rest of this five-game road trip with games against the Rangers and Devils on Thursday and Sunday respectively. For the Flyers they have a game Wednesday night in Ottawa. They will look to turn things around against a Senators team coming off of a 6-3 loss to Boston on Monday afternoon.
