The LSU Tigers look to get back to the dominance they have seen much of this century in the second full season under head coach Ed Orgeron. The tigers struggled at points last season finishing with a record of 9-4. The season was full of ups and downs, none lower than the loss to Troy at home during homecoming but none higher than the win over the Auburn Tigers just two weeks later. Besides Troy the Tigers didn’t really lose any other games they should have won but consistency will be the key to the success for LSU this year.
The biggest struggle for LSU last year was the passing game and with Darrius Guice gone to the NFL the Tigers won’t have an all-American caliber back they can lean on when things get tough. LSU did get one of the biggest transfers in the nation in the offseason with Joe Burrows coming over from Ohio State to hopefully fix the LSU QB problems. Also check out This Article we published a few months ago talking about this move. The LSU defense looks to continue the success they had last season especially the pass defense which was one of the top 20 best pass defenses in the nation. The rush defense was not quite as good ranking 48th in the nation in yards per game, however in the SEC with teams like Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and Mississippi State all being run heavy teams I wouldn’t be too concerned about those numbers. The problem that LSU will have this year is they play one of the toughest schedules in the nation which you can see below. If Joe Burrows can play even close to his potential and the young backs from LSU can step up and fill the void left by Guice then the Tigers could be a dangerous team. It will be tough though as there are still some questions on offense and as I mentioned this schedule will leave very little room for errors. Here is my prediction on how each game will finish out for the Tigers: L- Vs. Miami(FL) (Neutral) W- Vs. SE Louisiana L- At. Auburn W- Vs. LA Tech W- Vs. Ole Miss W- At. Florida W- Vs. Georgia W- Vs. Mississippi State L- Vs. Alabama W- At. Arkansas W- Vs. Rice L- At. Texas A&M Overall I think the tigers will be a much better team this year however I don’t think their record will show, I see the UGA game and A&M games both being very close but gave the nod to the home team in both of those. I also see Florida and MS State being two games that could be trap games if they aren’t careful. Miami week one will be interesting but I just don’t know if the LSU offense will be ready, I do think it will be a very close game with Miami pulling one out.
