Coming off of a College World Series victory, Madrigal signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox yesterday with a signing bonus of $6,411,400. Madrigal was called "the best baseball player in the draft" by some MLB scouts. Madrigal was spectacular in his junior season at Oregon State where he had a .367 batting average, 16 extra base hits, 34 RBI, 15 stolen bases out of 16 attempts, and had a .428 on base percentage which is absolutely everything that you are looking for out of your leadoff hitter.
Madrigal played 2B for the Beavers during his college career and he is scouted to be an outstanding fielder and a potential gold glove player for the White Sox which is exactly what they need in the future while Anderson and Moncada combine for 25 errors at 2B and SS. Madrigal said in his conference call today with the White Sox on Chicago "Driving around the city and seeing the whole layout, I can definitely see that being a home for me. Somewhere I want to win for and hopefully bring back to that city one day." If that doesn’t put a smile on your face as a White Sox fan I don’t know what will especially going through the hardest part of the rebuild whether its been Kopech struggling in Triple A, Burger having huge setbacks in his development with his Achilles tendon, Robert spraining his thumb not once but twice in a year, or seeing Eloy's call up getting pushed back with his recent injury.
This quote makes that all go away for a second. Per @CST_soxvan , Daryl Van Schouwen on twitter Madrigal will play a few games at SS in the Arizona rookie league and then straight to low A ball with the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday to then hopefully finish up the season in high A ball with the Winston-Salem Dash.
