Memphis: The Shockers take down the Tigers at FedExPark by a score of 13-6 to take the series over the Tigers. With the win, the Shockers wrap up the 7th seed in the AAC Tournament and will play the South Florida Bulls.
The Shockers went one win, one loss, and one tie against the Bulls this season. This match-up might be one of the most underrated games of the Tournament. Wichita State has been a team that shown promise throughout the season but also a team who has lacked the consistency throughout to be competitive in conference play.
With the loss, the Tigers will close out the season with a 20-36 record overall, and a dismal 5-19 conference record. The season for the Tigers was one of ups and downs but Tiger faithful had plenty to cheer about throughout. Moments like Jonathan Bowlan striking out 18, and throwing a complete game will be the bright spots for Tiger fans to hold on to.
The Tigers will likely be a very experienced team next year as they only lose five seniors to graduation and Jonathan Bowlan to the MLB draft.
Standout Memphis pitcher Jonathan Bowlan is a projected 5th round draft pick by a slew of baseball experts. Bowlan will likely be leaving Memphis after three years with the program for the MLB.
Wichita State improves to 34-19-1 on the season and 9-14-1 in AAC play. The Shockers will have to win the AAC Tournament in Clearwater, Fl to advance onto the NCAA Tournament.
Hunter Smith went four innings, giving up four runs, and two strikeouts for the Tigers in the season-ending loss.
On the other side for Wichita State, the bats were on fire going for 20 hits, and 13 runs in the 13-6 win over Memphis
The AAC will begin play on Tuesday from Clearwater, FL.
