With just two weeks left in the regular season, SEC baseball has hit an all-time high. Heading into this weekend within the SEC a lot of teams are not only battling for SEC tournament seeding but also NCAA Tournament birth this weekend is crucial across the conference. With a series win at home over Georgia, the Florida Gators will be crowned SEC regular season champs and earn a one seed heading into Hoover.
Thursday- Saturday
Starting on Thursday Auburn will travel to Oxford to face the mighty Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss is coming into the series looking to earn a hard-fought series win after dropping two of three on the road at South Carolina. The Tigers are coming into the series looking to shake up the SEC West standings ahead of the SEC Tournament in Hoover.
Prediction:
Ole Miss takes two of three at home for a key series win over Auburn.
Friday- Sunday series of importance
Gainesville: The Georiga Bulldogs will travel to Gainesville, Florida to play arch-rival Florida Gators in a huge series for Georgia. The Bulldogs are coming into the weekend ranked within in top 15 as they face the top-ranked Florida Gators. Florida has been unstoppable all season long winning an SEC record eight series which equals out to every conference series the Gators have played in. With a win, Georgia would move even closer to being able to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament.
Prediction:
Florida takes the series over Georgia to clinch at least a share of the SEC crown.
Fayetteville: Arkansas will host the feisty Texas A&M Fighting Aggies this weekend in a crucial SEC West tilt. A series win this weekend for the Razorbacks would be huge heading into the final week of SEC play. With Ole Miss nipping on Arkansas’s heels the Hogs must find a way to win this series to sit on top of the SEC West standings.
Prediction:
The Razorbacks bats come alive and sweep the Aggies.
Lexington: Mississippi State travels to face the Kentucky Wildcats in a must-win for the Bulldogs. If the Bulldogs want any shot of postseason play they must travel to Lexington and upset the Wildcats. Kentucky has been inconsistent the entire season and with a series win over State, the Wildcats will have something to build off of heading into Hoover.
Prediction:
Kentucky drops the first, before winning two straight and the series.
Predictions for the other series:
LSU sweeps Alabama at home
South Carolina takes two out of three over Missouri.
Tennessee takes two out of three at home over Vanderbilt.
With two weeks left to play before the SEC Tournament this weekend just might be the most crucial one that we have seen all season. The road to Hoover is not easy but the end result is worth it. From high-intensity pitching duels to high flying at-bats this weekend is bound to be one for the books in the SEC.
