SEC Football Season Recap

Mitch Davis

The South: The confetti fell on a new National Champion - the Alabama Crimson Tide - who had just won the program’s 17th National Championship after an incredible game. The Southeastern Conference as a whole was celebrating with having won nine out of the last twelve titles, and for the second time since 2012 had two SEC teams compete for the title. Haters and doubters said the SEC was down after a dismal bowl record of 4-5. The Southeastern Conference shut down the naysayers with having two teams earn a spot in National Championship game in Atlanta. This season in the SEC had its ups and downs - from coaching changes to heated rivalries - but one thing remained: the SEC is here to stay. With coaches like Kirby Smart, Nick Saban, Jim Bo Fischer, Dan Mullen to name a few, the SEC is here to stay, and other conferences are just playing catch up.

What to look forward going into spring football into next season:

Quarterback play all over the conference

New coaches at: Tennessee, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Florida

Continue domination from the SEC

Rematch next season in Atlanta for the SEC crown

Alabama: After winning his 6th National Championship and Alabama’s 17th Nick Saban and his young gun Quarterback proved why the Alabama dynasty was far from over. The Crimson Tide showed grit after falling behind at half and finding a way to come back to win in overtime 26-23. Tua Tagovailoa went 14/24, 168 yards, 3 TD's after coming in to start the second half after a poor first half from Jalen Hurts. Alabama will be poised to defend its crown next season.

Georgia: After jumping out to a 13-0 halftime lead, the Bulldogs and Kirby Smart got conservative with play calling and that decision cost them a championship. Jake Fromm went for 16/32, 232 yds, 1 TD, and 2 INT.

Kirby Smart will have his junkyard Dawgs back in Atlanta next season for a rematch with Alabama in the SEC championship.

As this College football season comes to an end the Southeastern Conference has a lot to look forward to going into spring football. I personally look forward to covering the SEC next season and following all the craziness that is the SEC.
