After a wild weekend of upsets in the SEC one question remains who is the dominant team? That question is one that can’t be answered because it is one that changes with every game played. The SEC is at it’s absolute best that it has been in many years with the possibility of 6-8 teams making the NCAA Tournament any team can beat anybody on any given night in the Southeastern Conference. Without further ado I will start a Bi-weekly SEC power ranking each week that highlights the good teams and bring light to the craziness of the SEC.
Florida (3-0) – The Gators are off to a hot and furious start in Conference play after wins on the road @ Texas A&M, and yesterday against Missouri, and one win against the feisty Vanderbilt Commodores. This week for the Gators will be one filled with two games against the Mississippi teams. 1/10 Mississippi State, 1/13 @ Ole Miss.
Auburn (2-0) – The Tigers are 14-1 on the season and 2-0 in Conference play. With wins over Tennessee on the road by double digits, and an 11 point win at home against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Auburn has deserved the number two ranking in this weeks SEC poll. This week for the Tigers they play both Mississippi schools with Ole Miss coming to the plains on 1/9, and travel to Starkville on Saturday to face a feisty Mississippi State team.
Tennessee ( 1-2) – Despite dropping the first two SEC games at home the Volunteers got it together and looked like men in an eleven point beat down of the Kentucky Wildcats. This week for the Volunteers: 1/9 @ Vanderbilt, 1/13 Texas A&M ( home)
Kentucky ( 2-1) – After barely squeaking by Georgia at home and LSU on the road, the young Wildcats got exposed in Knoxville. Several players looked timid and confused throughout the game after giving up an eight point lead to lose by eleven. The Wildcats face another challenging week with Texas A& M coming to Rupp on 1/9 and traveling to Vanderbilt on Saturday 1/13.
LSU ( 1-1) – The Bayou Bengals fought hard against Kentucky but came up short by three points, then responded with a huge road win at the buzzer in College Station against Texas A&M. The Tigers will travel to Arkansas Wednesday night and back home Saturday to host Collin Sexton and the Crimson Tide.
Georgia( 2-1) - After hanging close with Kentucky on the road, the Bulldogs jumped out to back to back poundings of Ole Miss, and Alabama. Georgia plays on the road at Mizzou on Wednesday night, and back home Saturday to face South Carolina.
Ole Miss ( 2-1) – Despite a lackluster start to the regular season, Ole Miss is sitting at a 2-1 record in conference play with both wins coming at home to South Carolina and arch rival Mississippi State. Ole Miss’s lone SEC loss comes at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs on the roads. Ole Miss travels to Auburn on Tuesday and back home to close out the week against Florida on Saturday.
Alabama ( 1-2) – Despite opening conference play with a 22 point home win the Crimson Tide has dropped two straight road games. Alabama plays host to South Carolina on Tuesday night, before heading to Baton Rouge to face the feisty LSU Tigers on Saturday.
Arkansas (1-2) - Arkansas opened conference play with a huge road win at Tennessee, but since then has dropped two straight to Mississippi State, and Auburn. The Razorbacks have two home games this week with LSU on Wednesday and Missouri on Saturday.
South Carolina (1-2) – South Carolina opened SEC play 0-2 after losing to Ole Miss on the road, and Missouri at home. The gamecocks bounced back and beat Vanderbilt Saturday to gain its first SEC win. The Gamecocks have two tough road games this week starting with a mad Alabama team on Tuesday, and close out the week in Athens to face the Bulldogs.
Missouri ( 1-1) – After opening SEC play with an impressive win at South Carolina, the Tigers lost a heart breaker to the Gators at home to drop to 1-1. This week for Tigers: 1/10 home against Georgia and to close out the week on Saturday with a road game @ Arkansas.
Mississippi State ( 1-1) – Mississippi State opened conference play with an impressive home win against Arkansas then followed it up with a loss on the road against Ole Miss on Saturday. The Bulldogs are scary and will climb in the rankings, but as of right now the Bulldogs need more impressive wins to climb. Mississippi State has a road game on Wednesday at Florida and back home Saturday to face a red hot Auburn team.
Vanderbilt ( 1-2)- The Commodores are 0-2 on the road in Conference play with losses @ Florida and South Carolina. Vanderbilt’s lone conference win came at home against Alabama. Vanderbilt has two tough homes games this week as arch rival Tennessee comes to town Tuesday night and Kentucky on Saturday.
Texas A&M ( 0-3) – The Aggies are off to a shaky start in Conference play after climbing all the way into the top 5 in the AP poll. The Aggies have lost to Alabama by 22, Florida by 17, and a last second one point loss to LSU at home. The Aggies look to bounce back this week with two road games starting at Kentucky on Tuesday, and at Tennessee on Saturday.
